Howell boy's instinct helps save elderly neighbor

Danny DiPietro, 10, center, surrounded by his family, from left, sister Catie, brother Dylan, mother Dawn and father Tony, spotted what he thought was a dog but turned out to be an elderly woman who had fallen in her garage near their home in Howell on Saturday. He begged his mother to check, and the DiPietros and neighbors were able to get the woman to safety.

The family of an elderly Howell resident is "forever grateful" for a 10-year-old boy they've dubbed a hero.
An 80-year-old woman, who lives alone in Nelson's Ridge Condominium Complex, slipped in her garage Saturday night after eating out for dinner, said her daughter, Sandy Mitter. She was unable to get up.
"We think she laid there for two to two-and-a-half hours," she said. "She kept trying to yell for help and was banging on the wall for neighbors."  http://www.freep.com/article/20140129/NEWS05/301290080/Tony-DiPietro-elderly-woman-hero-Howell

Sheriff's deputy called hero after saving life of teenager

                             Ambulance

ST. PAUL, MN (WTAQ) - A sheriff's deputy is being called a hero for saving a western Wisconsin teenager on a ski slope in neighboring Minnesota.
17-year-old Dan Mannon, a snowboarder from Wilson, was waiting in line for a chair lift ride when he collapsed last Saturday at the Afton Alps ski resort east of St. Paul.
Mannon just happened to be standing next to Washington County deputy Shane Linehan -- who kicked off his skis, checked Mannon, and found that the teen did not have a pulse.
Linehan and ski instructor Kevin Neubauer performed CPR while the ski area's general manager, Joe Yasis, arrived with a defibrillator. The unit shocked Mannon's heart enough to get it going again.
